How to Stay Healthy on Vacation

Vacations are a great opportunity to step away from everyday worries and de-stress. Unfortunately, they’re also often the place healthy habits go to die. It’s sometimes ironic since many people use them as motivation to begin getting in shape in the first place.

You work hard to build healthier habits and self-discipline but after a week or two of vaycay bliss, it all seems to vanish when you get home. It can feel harder to get back into the swing of things as you return to normal life. Junky cravings can skyrocket and discipline to workout may plummet. So how do you enjoy your trip and stay healthy on vacation? Continue reading “How to Stay Healthy on Vacation”

3 Kitchen Gadgets to Help You Eat Healthy

If there’s one goal that I think everyone should have for their diet, it’s to eat high-quality foods. We should aim to consume more natural, wholesome foods and fewer overly processed ones. It’s trickier said than done, given the deceptive advertising within the food industry. Many items on store shelves marketed to us as “healthy,” “natural” or “organic” start to become pretty questionable when you actually read over the ingredient list. At the end of the day, the best option is usually just preparing our meals at home from quality ingredients. Continue reading “3 Kitchen Gadgets to Help You Eat Healthy”

3 Craveable Cauliflower Recipes

Cauliflower is a surprisingly versatile vegetable. I didn’t eat much of it growing up and when I was exposed to it, it was either plain steamed cauliflower or those raw pieces that no one eats on those veggie party platters. Neither of those things was particularly exciting, so for years, I assumed cauliflower was the boring, tasteless vegetable that people sometimes ate out of obligation more than enjoyment.

In reality, quite often the magic of any ingredient is in the preparation. As it turned out, there were many delicious ways to enjoy cauliflower that I just hadn’t been exposed to yet!

Cauliflower is actually a quite the superstar of versatility in the veggie world. Today I’m going to share two of my favorite cauliflower recipes from the past on the blog as well as my latest cauliflower obsession. Not only are they absolutely craveable, they’re also all vegan, Whole30 and Keto diet adaptable! Continue reading “3 Craveable Cauliflower Recipes”

How to Respond to Online Body Shamers

I think most people can relate to feeling pressured to meet some kind of societal standard of beauty. Social media, with its positive aspects, often magnifies that drive to compare our lives (and bodies) to other people. And unfortunately, it’s sometimes fueled by the way the Internet enables strangers to throw stones from behind a keyboard. Continue reading “How to Respond to Online Body Shamers”

7 Shaving Tips to Say Goodbye Razor Burn

I was born with the joy of fair, delicate skin. When I go to the beach, I burn and freckle. In the winter, I become a moisturizing zealot and in summer hoarding exuberant amounts of sunscreen is a way of life. And when I shave, rash and razor burn follow me like the plague (which is unfortunate, because I work in gyms where it’s shorts/tank top season year round). I Tried: A Vegan Diet for a Month

People are curious about veganism. It’s little surprise, given the increasing number of studies and documentaries on plant-based diets. In 2016 alone, Google experienced a whopping 90 percent increase in vegan-related internet searches (a monumental rise from the previous year’s 32 percent increase). With the influx of new information, people are discovering veganism and vegetarianism aren’t solely about the political beliefs behind meat consumption; there are practical, measurable health benefits behind the nutrition.

But is veganism practical for the Average Joe? Continue reading “I Tried: A Vegan Diet for a Month”

Kale and Butternut Squash Super Salad

I hated the idea of salads growing up. The first time I actually ever ate one was in high school when I first began trying to lose weight. I remember forcing myself to choke down a big bowl of iceberg lettuce under thick layers of cheese and ranch dressing (suuuuper healthy, right?) and feeling like a survivor of some unfortunate tragedy afterward.
